The story behind the frameworks

10+ years in NZ digital marketing. A book. Four interconnected ideas.

The Personal Bit

I'm based in Wanaka, studied at AUT, and spent the last decade working in digital marketing for some interesting NZ companies.

Every role taught me the same lesson: most marketing is noise dressed up as strategy.

The tactics change. The trends shift. The fundamental problem doesn't. Businesses spend enormous energy on activities that don't connect to revenue. Marketers chase metrics that don't matter. Trust gets traded for short-term wins, and the cost compounds.

So I started asking harder questions. What if the thing you're optimising for is the wrong variable entirely? What if the answer isn't more tactics, but fewer, clearer levers?

The Book, the Frameworks, the System

I wrote Marketing Curious: Working the Noise to answer those questions. It started as a personal philosophy. It became four frameworks.

Marketing has two levers. Traffic and Offer. Everything else is execution on one or the other. That's the core. But traffic isn't a single thing. It's layered. Underneath sits Opportunity and Authority: the organic, earned, compounding layer.

Scaling the whole thing requires an operating system. A way to run traffic, offer, and authority without burning out, without losing human judgment, without letting automation replace strategy. That's what 4 Quadrant AI does.

Sitting above all of it is The Trust Algorithm. Not a framework for executing. A philosophy for why it matters. Trust isn't a feeling. It's a system you can build, test, and compound.

What I'm After

Fewer levers, used consciously, measured against revenue. Frameworks that simplify complexity and reveal what was hidden. If a framework doesn't do both, it's jargon.

Trust as a system, not sentiment. Engineered, tested, compounded.

AI as a tool, not an answer. The tools are getting smarter. Human judgment is getting more valuable.

Writing as thinking. Real writing, not bullet points, is how you find out what you actually believe.

Why I Write

Every article, every framework, every question is part of figuring out what's true. The contradictions matter. The moments where the framework breaks reveal what's real.

But most of all, to have better conversations :)

Where to Find Me

Most of my thinking is supposed to happen on Substack. That's where I work through problems, ask questions, and share the frameworks as they evolve.

LinkedIn is there if you want the credentials version.

The best way to understand what I think is to read the frameworks. Start with Traffic + Offer if your marketing isn't working. Move to Opportunity + Authority if you want to build something that lasts. Go to 4 Quadrant AI if you're trying to scale without losing control. Read The Trust Algorithm for the philosophy underneath all of it.

The frameworks live on four websites. The story they came from lives in Marketing Curious: Working the Noise: the businesses where each one was built, the failures that shaped them, the years between. The websites are the tools. The book is the receipt.
