Essay 10 of 13 · Movement III: Reading the Machines

The Noise

On 15 August 2026 I stood outside on a pretty cold day, pointed a camera at myself, and asked the question I get asked most and had never answered on the record. Personal brands. As a marketer, what the fuck is a personal brand? I have a degree in this, I’ve done the marketing for a book printer, a mortgage broker and a magnet factory, and I could not find the thing on any page I was taught from. In marketing there’s four P’s, and there’s no B, there’s no brand. Brand is generally how people remember you or if they know you. It’s more of like a reputation than something you kind of just decide on one day.

I ran a person through the four P’s the way I’d run a magnet or a mortgage. Price.
